The current Gwangju Spinning Mill 1 (60 Seorim-ro, Buk-gu, Gwangju 61254) is the first plant of Ilshin Spinning, it was a cotton mill operated by a Japanese spinning company in 1935 during the Japanese colonization. At that time, it was the largest spinning mill in Korea featuring 35,000 spindles, 1,440 looms and 3,000 employees.

The Japanese company withdrew from the mill upon the liberation from Japan and state-owned National Chonnam Spinning Corporation was launched with Kim Hyung-nam appointed the chief director of the company.

The industrial facilities built after the liberation from Japan were destroyed during the outbreak of the Korean War.

- Chonnam Spinning Co. was founded.

Under its privatization policy, the government transferred the ownership of National Chonnam Spinning Corporation to Kim Hyung-nam, Kim Young-joo and Lee Han-won, who launched Chonnam Spinning Corporation together.

Affected by the political turmoils caused by the March 15 fraudulent election in 1960 and the April 19 pro-democracy revolution in 1961, the company was split for more efficient management and Kim Hyung-nam founded Ilshin Spinning.

- Kim Chang-ho took office as CEO.

Vice President Kim Chang-ho, who had joined the company in 1961, took office as a new CEO and began to establish export-oriented management systems in line with the growing demand for fabrics worldwide.

- Founding Chairman Kim Hyung-nam passed away.

Founder Kim Hyung-nam, who had served for the company for 23 years since his taking office as the chief director of National Chonam Spinning Corporation in 1945, passed away at the age of 74. His funeral was sponsored by Soongsil University for which he had served as its chairman and president.

Vice President Kim Young-ho, who had joined the company in 1974, took office as a new President and CEO and began to establish new management systems and carry forward company-wide business rationalization.

- Banwol Dyeing Mill was established.

In order to supply products of reliable quality to main customers by installing its own dyeing facilities and establishing product lines, the company constructed a yarn dyeing mill in Banwol Industrial Complex (Choji-dong, Danwon-gu) and gradually extended it for piece dyeing.

The nation's first advanced cotton spinning mill featuring the latest automation equipment was opened in the industry's spotlight. This boasted of its large cotton spinning capacity with 133,400 spindles.

- Cheongwon Spinning Mill was established.

Despite the sharp decline in the scale of facilities of cotton spinning companies after the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Ilshin established a state-of-the-art mill exclusively for combed cotton yarns with 50,000 spindles, thereby securing the largest market share in the combed cotton yarn market.

- Ilshin Building, the company building at Yeouido, was established.

The new office building (Ilshin Building in Yeouido) was established in the western part of Yeouido, opening the Yeouido era.
- November 2001
- Ilshin Family Festival was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the company.

All members of the company attended Ilshin Family Festival, held in Gwangju, the city where the company was started, and resolved to make a leap for another half a century.
- March 2007
- Gwangju Spinning Mill 2 was established.

To restore the capacity of Cheongwon Mill lost due to a fire that took place in September 2005, Ilshin established the world-class cutting-edge automated cotton spinning mill that can monitor the entire processes in Pyeongdong Industrial Complex (Ok-dong, Gwangsan-gu).

- New office building in Hannam-dong was constructed.

Ilshin constructed a new premium office building in Hannam-dong, which has become a landmark of Seoul, especially with its grid-pattern outer walls and colorful LED lights. It features a performance hall and a large atrium where many artworks are exhibited.

- Ilshin Vietnam was established in Vietnam.

In line with the entry of its major accounts in Vietnam, Ilshin established its first overseas corporation in Phuoc Dong Industrial Park in Tây Ninh Province for timely supply of products.
